The best way to know the self is feeling oneself at the moments of reckoning. The feeling of being alone, just with your senses, may lead you to think more consciously. More and more of such moments may sensitize ‘you towards you’, towards others. We become regular with introspection and retrospection. We get ‘the’ gradual connect to the higher self we may name Spirituality or God or just a Humane Conscious. We tend to get a rhythm again in life. We need to learn the art of being lonely in crowd while being part of the crowd. A multitude of loneliness in mosaic of relations! One needs to feel it severally, with conscience, before making it a way of life. One needs to live several such lonely moments. One needs to live severallyalone.

IT WAS AN EARTHQUAKE HE REALIZED

LIFE - COLORES INFINITUM (32)

It was an earthquake he realized after few seconds, and so the others. The building was shaking. But he didn’t panic. He was not shocked. Before this, he had fleeting experiences of experiencing an earthquake. This one was full blown. For the whole period of 18-20 seconds, it was there, completely in sight. Every frame in sight was shaking. Some chairs fell down.

Then there was this sudden rush to go out of the building. But at the same time, there was no uncalled-for hurry. Everyone took to the stairs in a civilized way. Slowly, the building was almost empty with very few remaining inside. The moving out was more of a precautionary measure than a panic response.

After spending sometime in open, by the time the jolt was gone, the chores took back to the stairs. Meanwhile, calls were made to the near and dear ones asking for their well being. Once inside, the spontaneous earthquake responsiveness gave way to the spontaneous reaction to contribute to the information flow.

After all, it was a massive earthquake. Its epicenter was in Iran near Iran-Pakistan border but its shocks were felt in many Middle East and South Asian countries including India and Pakistan. The initial confusion soon was cleared after the US Geological Survey updated its website with the earthquake information and related technical details and maps. Once the USGS said, it was accepted the quake intensity was 7.8 on Richter scale though the Iranian Seismological Center put it at 7.5.

Now the next one hour or so was for the scramble to dig as deep as possible to get as much information as possible as an earthquake of intensity 7.8 can bring unimaginable destruction.

The history was revisited and the history of geography was rekindled. It was all in process when some positive news started making its way in. The USGS categorized the earthquake’s PAGER green. PAGER is an acronym for ‘Prompt Assessment of Global Earthquakes for Response’.

PAGER is an automated system that produces content concerning the impact of significant earthquakes around the world, informing emergency responders, government and aid agencies, and the media of the scope of the potential disaster. PAGER rapidly assesses earthquake impacts by comparing the population exposed to each level of shaking intensity with models of economic and fatality losses based on past earthquakes in each country or region of the world. – USGS

A green PAGER is for an earthquake causing zero (or say minimum) fatalities and an economic loss less than $1 million in scale.

Also, the initial reports said the city of Saravan, near the epicenter of the quake, was not seriously damaged. Though the Iran’s state run Press TV reported of 40 earthquake deaths in Iran but others in Iranian media contradicted it saying there was no official confirmation.

So, after an hour or so of witnessing such a massive jolt in a New Delhi office (and in so many other of offices), the spontaneous urge to contribute to the concerned flow of information started subsiding. And by another an hour or so, the responsive impulses almost got flattened.

Yes, but it had an experience for him that he would remember for its non-fatal shock value.  After that it was a usual day. Other developments on the agenda got their stack back. But there were some concerns left.

Though in Delhi or in India, no particular harm was reported, and the scientific findings declared the earthquake causing minimum loss, a wait of some more hours was needed to get a clear picture.

And after six hours of the earthquake, there are further warnings of the aftershocks. Reports say some 1000 houses in Pakistan’s Mushkil town near the border of Iran have collapsed in the earthquake and hundreds are feared dead. Some more breaking news stories are reporting of heavy destruction in Southern Iran where the epicenter lies, while writing this.

Let’s see what comes next and pray.
