LIFE - COLORES INFINITUM (22)
Tomorrow is an important day in his fights against what
you call destiny or fate’s travesty with his and his family’s life.
After his family won the court case at the district court,
one of the three convicts has approached the high court for appeal and bail.
The case is listed for hearing tomorrow.
The current developments around it give him an eerie
similarity to what happened at the high court during the trial phase of the
case at the district court more than two years ago.
Then, a lawyer, whom he had engaged, had duped him by
keeping him unaware of the movement of the main accused for bail at the high
court after the district had cancelled it. Apart from some monetary dealings,
the caste of the main accused (same to that of the lawyer) was one major reason
that made the lawyer dupe him.
Now this time, the caste is not a factor, but still there
are developments that are making him think otherwise.
He had spoken to the clerk of this lawyer on Saturday
where he was informed by the clerk that the case was yet to be listed. Now
today, he got a call that the hearing is slated for tomorrow. When he crossed
checked the facts, he came to know that the case was listed on Friday itself. Also
the lawyer, though he had been recommended by some people known to him, keeps focusing
more on negative aspects of the judgement and never talks in affirmative when
it is asked if the convicts would not get bail now.
Anyway, let’s see what happens. Though there are
contradicting versions on whether the convicts would get bail, he is thinking
of the days ahead now. He knows there are equal chances of them getting the
bail as the case is based on circumstantial evidence and it all depends on how
the sitting judge interprets the circumstances.
This is our legal system where a victim family, who had seen
one of the family pillars murdered brutally, is forced to make known and
unknown, conscious and unconscious calculations, even if the memories of the
departed keep on grinding bringing those occasional tears regularly.
And there are no takers for those tears in this selfish age.
Thankfully, he doesn’t expect and doesn’t allow anyone for that now.
Whatever that happens tomorrow, he knows he is ready to
fight it out even at this court.
